
Buffalo, NY (WNY News Now) – Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces the sentencing of 34-year-old William A. Fugate to 3 ½ to 7 years in prison after he was found guilty of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree. Fugate’s confrontation with Buffalo Police officers during a traffic stop led to officers firing their weapons, hitting him four times.
William A. Fugate (34) of Buffalo has been sentenced to 3 ½ to 7 years in prison for Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree.
The incident took place on December 29, 2019, when Buffalo Police officers initiated a traffic stop on Northland Avenue and Lonsdale Road after observing an illegal U-turn. Fugate was on parole at the time and attempted to flee as officers conducted the stop. During his attempt to escape, he pointed an illegal firearm towards the officers, prompting them to fire their weapons. Fugate was subsequently hit four times by gunfire.
Fugate pleaded guilty to one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (Class “D” felony).
