NEW YORK, NY (WNY News Now) – The New York Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation (OSI) is launching an inquiry into the death of an individual who lost his life during an encounter with Niagara Falls Police Department (NFPD) officers on August 3, 2023.

NFPD officers responded to a shots-fired report at 900 Niagara Avenue. Upon arrival, they reportedly encountered the individual brandishing a firearm and demanded him to drop it. Allegedly defying the officers’ commands, the individual opened fire on them, prompting the officers to retaliate. The individual was rushed to a local hospital but was later pronounced dead. A gun was found at the scene.
