Horseheads, NY (WNY News Now) – A former Assistant Clerk for the Village of Horseheads, has been arrested for allegedly embezzling approximately $4,000 from the Village through a scheme that involved altering records.

Tammy Miele, 49, is facing charges of grand larceny and corrupting the government, both felonies, for allegedly stealing nearly $4,000 from the Village. The arrest follows a comprehensive joint investigation that unveiled a sophisticated embezzlement scheme.

It is alleged that Miele accepted cash payments from residents, including those meant for water bills, and then manipulated the Village’s accounting system to eliminate the corresponding balances. This manipulation allowed her to pocket the money undetected. The analysis exposed her theft of $3,548 from September 2017 to September 2022.

Tammy Miele’s employment with the Village of Horseheads was terminated in September 2022. She was arraigned before Judge Christopher Pelchar in the Village of Elmira Heights Court and is scheduled to make another appearance on September 6, 2023.
