Town of Ellery, NY (WNY News Now) – A fire that consumed a building on Maple Springs-Ellery Rd in the Town of Ellery has led to the arrest of a local man on charges of Arson and Menacing, following a dispute that turned violent.
Chautauqua County law enforcement and emergency services responded to a blazing structure on Maple Springs-Ellery Rd in the Town of Ellery on August 12, 2023. The collaborative efforts of the various county fire agencies effectively managed the situation. The fire completely engulfed a building situated on the property. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among those present on-site.
An immediate investigation was launched to determine the cause of the fire which led to the arrest of Daniel Lutgen,41, of Ellery on charges of Arson in the 2nd Degree as well as Menacing in the 2nd Degree.
The charges stem from allegations that arose during a heated dispute. According to reports, Lutgen brandished a knife and issued threats to a victim involved in the altercation. Furthermore, it is alleged that Lutgen intentionally ignited the building while another individual was present inside.
Following his apprehension, Lutgen was promptly transported to Centralized Arraignment at the Chautauqua County Jail. He is currently being held on bail as he awaits further legal proceedings.
