Hamburg, NY (WNY News Now) – A 46-year-old Hamburg resident was sentenced to 5 years of probation after she stole over $168,000 from the Southtowns Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Cynthia L. Matla, a 46-year-old resident of Hamburg, has been sentenced to 5 years of probation by State Supreme Court Justice M. William Boller. Matla was convicted of embezzling more than $168,000 from the Southtowns Regional Chamber of Commerce during her employment as a bookkeeper.
Between January 1, 2019 and August 29, 2022, Matla systematically siphoned funds from the organization by issuing checks to herself and misusing the organization’s debit card for personal expenses. The fraudulent activities came to light when the Chamber’s bank account was found to be overdrawn.
As part of her guilty plea, Matla has successfully made amends by restituting the entire sum of $178,682.96 to the Southtowns Regional Chamber of Commerce and the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance.
