(WNY News Now) – A 21-year-old has been sentenced to 25 years in prison, accompanied by 5 years of post-release supervision, after recklessly causing the death of his girlfriend’s 7-month-old son.

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn has revealed the sentencing outcome in the tragic case of 21-year-old Nasir Jackson, a Buffalo resident who admitted to the manslaughter of 7-month-old Ocean Reed.

The crime happened when Jackson was responsible for the care of his girlfriend’s infant son at a hotel room in the Town of Tonawanda. Tragically, the child, Ocean Reed, was found unresponsive during his stay and was immediately taken to Kenmore Mercy Hospital. Despite medical efforts, Ocean succumbed to his injuries on December 10, 2021.

The investigation by the Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that Ocean’s untimely demise resulted from severe blunt force trauma to his head and neck. In light of the evidence, Jackson pleaded guilty on June 23, 2023, to a single count of Manslaughter in the First Degree, classified as a Class “B” violent felony.

The sentencing, conducted by Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case, concluded with Jackson being handed a 25-year prison term, to be followed by 5 years of post-release supervision.
