State Trooper Charged in Fiery Crash That Killed Woman

(WNY News Now) – Charges have been brought an against off-duty State Trooper following a fatal crash that claimed the life of a woman. 

Sullivan Township, PA – Attorney General Michelle Henry has brought charges against off-duty Pennsylvania State Trooper Michael J. Brown following a fatal crash in Tioga County. The incident claimed the life of Christine Woodward, who died after Brown’s attempt to illegally pass another vehicle led to a collision on Route 6.


Investigations revealed that on February 11, 2023, Brown was driving his Jeep Grand Cherokee on Route 6 in Sullivan Township. In a bid to overtake a vehicle ahead, he crossed double yellow lines and collided with an oncoming car ascending a hill. The impact ignited a fiery crash resulting in Woodward’s tragic death.

Brown faces charges including felony homicide by vehicle and five summary traffic violations. Surrendering himself on Monday, he was granted unsecured bail of $50,000.
