(WNY News Now) – A routine traffic stop in Jamestown led to the arrest of two individuals for criminal possession of controlled substances on the night of August 23rd.

Jamestown – Officers from the Jamestown Police Department’s Violent Crime Unit and STOP DWI Unit apprehended two suspects, Jenell L. Long and James D. Mawhir, during a traffic stop on E 2nd St at approximately 9:55 pm. The officers had initiated the stop due to observed traffic violations by the vehicle.

Upon engaging with the occupants, authorities discovered that both Long and Mawhir were in possession of a small quantity of fentanyl. The individuals, who offered no resistance, were taken into custody and subsequently transported to the Jamestown City Jail.


While in custody, it was revealed that James D. Mawhir had concealed a small amount of methamphetamine on his person in an attempt to avoid detection. Consequently, Mawhir faced two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th, while Jenell L. Long was charged with a single count of the same offense.

Following the booking process, both suspects were released with appearance tickets, scheduled to appear in Jamestown City Court at a later date.
