(WNY News Now) – Wegmans has announced the discontinuation of its popular WPOP brand soda due to the presence of artificial ingredients.

Rochester – Wegmans has surprised customers by discontinuing the WPOP brand soda, citing concerns over artificial additives. The grocery giant’s decision aligns with its “Food You Feel Good About” philosophy that avoids artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives. The soda, containing aspartame and high fructose corn syrup, no longer meets the chain’s quality standards.

Amid reactions, some consumers have rushed to stock up on remaining supplies, while others applaud the move for prioritizing health. Nutrition experts have raised concerns about aspartame’s potential risks, including neurological effects and cancer, while high fructose corn syrup has been linked to metabolic disorders and weight gain.

Although the loss of WPOP is lamented by many customers, the discontinuation sparks hope for a healthier replacement in line with Wegmans’ values. As consumers seek alternatives, options for low-sugar, flavorful sodas may fill the void left by WPOP’s departure.

Wegmans representatives have stated that production has already stopped, and that they expect to run out of inventory quickly.
