
(WNY News Now) – A tragic collision on I-90 in the early hours of September 3, 2023, resulted in the loss of an elderly passenger’s life and left one driver injured.
Montgomery County – At approximately 1:24 a.m. on September 3, 2023, State Police rushed to the scene of an accident on I-90 in Florida, Montgomery County. Preliminary investigations revealed that Steven G. Humphrey, 55, of Utica, NY, collided with the rear of a tractor-trailer, driven by Ronnie A. Benjamin Peguero, 32, of Middletown, NY, for reasons yet unknown. The impact ignited Humphrey’s Toyota Prius in flames.
Both drivers promptly pulled over and rescued Judith C. Humphrey, 81, of Utica, NY, the passenger in the Prius. Tragically, Judith Humphrey succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Montgomery County Coroner.
Her body was taken to Albany Medical Center for an autopsy. Meanwhile, Steven Humphrey received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries at St. Mary’s Hospital, and Peguero emerged from the incident unscathed.
