(WNY News Now) – A devastating incident unfolded on September 3, 2023, at 7:30 P.M., when a vehicle struck multiple pedestrians.

Allegany – New York State Troopers report that on Sunday evening Peggy J. Errera, a 70-year-old resident of Bradford, PA, was operating a 2014 Ford Fusion. Errera was backing out of a driveway onto the road with the intention to proceed forward. However, she failed to straighten her wheels, resulting in the vehicle accelerating back into the driveway, where it tragically collided with six people gathered in the front yard of a residence.

Regrettably, Ronald S. Piechota, 81, from Schenectady, NY, lost his life at the scene, while a 66-year-old victim was airlifted to Erie County Medical Center with severe injuries. The remaining four victims are currently receiving treatment at local hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.

Errera underwent evaluation by a Drug Recognition Expert, who found no signs of intoxication. The Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation are aiding in the ongoing investigation.
