(WNY News Now) – On September 22, 2023, a structure fire broke out at 16 Locust Street, prompting a rapid response from local firefighters.
Jamestown – The incident unfolded at approximately 4:35pm, with Engine Company 3 (E-3) being the first on the scene. E-3 reported smoke emanating from the eaves of the house. Chief Officer 1 (C-1) arrived shortly after and made contact with the homeowner, Dan Ozimek, who was safely outside and informed authorities of the fire in the concealed space between his porch ceiling and the house roof. All occupants had been successfully evacuated.
In response, firefighters quickly deployed a 1 3/4″ hose line, establishing a hydrant connection to E-3. Ladder Company 1 (L-1) accessed the area ablaze above the porch ceiling, using a chainsaw to cut an access hole. As smoke conditions worsened inside the structure, additional personnel, totaling 10 firefighters and one officer, were called to assist.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries in this incident, and firefighters successfully prevented the fire from spreading further. The cause of the fire was deemed accidental in nature.
