(WNY News Now) – An office manager for multiple doctors’ offices has been arrested in connection with a long-term scheme to defraud the New York State Insurance Plan (NYSHIP) of over $12,000 through fraudulent claims.
Ulster – New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli announced the arrest of Gina Bradshaw, 50, of Maybrook, NY, who worked as an office manager for several doctors’ offices in Manhattan. Bradshaw’s alleged scheme involved submitting false claims to NYSHIP, a state insurance plan, from 2018 through September 2019. She claimed medical services were provided by two out-of-network providers for whom she worked, though these services never occurred.
Bradshaw’s role as an office manager allowed her access to her husband’s NYSHIP identification number, who was a New York State employee. Under NYSHIP, state employees and their beneficiaries could receive reimbursement for out-of-network medical services. Bradshaw received $12,957.50 from NYSHIP, which she used for personal expenses, including credit card debt.
The investigation began with a complaint from United Healthcare Special Investigations Unit. Bradshaw has been charged with Grand Larceny in the third degree, Healthcare Fraud in the third degree, Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the first degree, and Falsifying Business Records in the first degree.
She is scheduled to appear in court on October 11, 2023.
