(WNY News Now) – A tragic two-vehicle collision on State Route 60 in Pomfret resulted in the loss of a life on October 9, 2023, as a southbound 2017 GMC veered into the northbound lane and struck a 2023 Mack head-on.
Pomfret – At 10:13 A.M. on October 9, 2023, Troopers from SP Jamestown responded to the scene of a serious accident on State Route 60. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2017 GMC, driven by Samuel D. Lobley, 41, was traveling southbound when it inexplicably crossed into the northbound lane, resulting in a devastating head-on collision with a 2023 Mack.
Tragically, Samuel D. Lobley did not survive the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. In response to a diesel fuel leak caused by the accident, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) swiftly arrived at the scene to address the environmental concern.
Lobley’s body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for a thorough autopsy. The New York State Police (NYSP) Collision Reconstruction Unit, Commercial Enforcement Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and the Fredonia Fire Company all contributed to the investigation of this tragic incident.
