(WNY News Now) – A Sherman woman faces charges of Petit Larceny stemming from an incident at Walmart located at 350 E. Fairmount Ave. in Lakewood.

Lakewood – It is alleged that on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, around 7:43 PM when Amanda L. Douglas, 33, of Sherman, attempted to pay significantly less for her items by manipulating price tags.

It is alleged that Douglas had taped lower-priced price tags over the original tags of various merchandise in her shopping cart. She then proceeded to the self-checkout, scanning the items at the lowered prices. This maneuver allowed her to pay significantly less for the items in her possession.

In total, Douglas is accused of underpaying by a substantial $286.00 for the various merchandise she had gathered during her shopping excursion. This amount caught the attention of Walmart staff and loss prevention, who immediately alerted the local authorities.

Upon their arrival, Amanda L. Douglas was taken into custody by the Lakewood Police Department and subsequently charged with Petit Larceny. Rather than being remanded into custody, Douglas was issued an Appearance Ticket for the Town of Busti Court.
