(WNY News Now) – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) has introduced the “Operation Swords of Iron” Supplemental Appropriations Act, seeking $14.056 billion in targeted security aid for Israel to enhance its defense capabilities against Palestinian terrorist organizations, including Hamas, Hezbollah, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

Washington D.C. – In an effort to bolster Israel’s defense capabilities, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) has introduced a legislative proposal totaling $14.056 billion in security aid. This funding, under the “Operation Swords of Iron” Supplemental Appropriations Act, signifies the United States’ commitment to support Israel in its ongoing struggle against the terrorist organizations including Hamas.

The legislation comes in response to a series of violent attacks perpetrated by Hamas on Israeli citizens, most notably on October 7. To address this immediate threat, Tenney’s bill, known as the “Operation Swords of Iron” Iron Dome Supplemental Appropriations Act, allocates $2 billion specifically to strengthen Israel’s Iron Dome defense system. Beyond fortifying the Iron Dome, the broader $14.056 billion appropriations bill extends support to Israel, enabling them to conduct “Operation Swords of Iron.”

Notably, President Biden recently proposed a comprehensive $105 billion omnibus package, encompassing aid for Israel, Ukraine, the U.S. border, Taiwan, and other priority areas. In contrast, Congresswoman Tenney’s bill solely focuses on funding for Israel, emphasizing her commitment to stand-alone funding bills.

Congresswoman Tenney underscored the urgency of the situation, stating, “Each day without action by the United States, more Israeli civilians, including children, women, and the elderly, are brutally affected by the actions of Hamas. The time to stand with Israel and unequivocally oppose anti-Semitism is now, and it demands a resolute response from the United States.” She also expressed the belief that aid to Israel should be considered individually, rather than grouped in omnibus packages.

The proposed security investment serves multiple purposes, aligning with the broader national security interests of the United States. It aims to keep American troops out of harm’s way while simultaneously assisting Israel in countering terrorist organizations that pose a threat to their security.
