(WNY News Now) – A Niagara County jury delivered a guilty verdict in the Murder case against a Niagara Falls man for the murder of Cyjear Betton and the shooting of another individual in broad daylight on May 2, 2022.

Niagara Falls – Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced today that Shaquan Gibson, a 49-year-old resident of Niagara Falls, has been found guilty of Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. The charges stem from the brutal slaying of 24-year-old Cyjear Betton and the shooting of another individual in Niagara Falls.

District Attorney Seaman characterized the crime as a “cold-blooded killing,” emphasizing that Gibson deliberately targeted his victims on Pine Avenue, carrying out the act in broad daylight. He remarked, “This verdict will ensure that this extremely dangerous individual is off the streets of Niagara Falls for good.”

The convicted murderer could potentially be sentenced to as much as 65 years to life in prison. The date for Gibson’s sentencing has been set for January 3, 2024, and the responsibility for determining the sentence rests with County Court Judge Caroline Wojtaszek.
