
JAMESTOWN, NEW YORK (WNY NEWS NOW) – The Jamestown Red Raiders 2023 varsity football season has come to an end with a semifinal loss to the #2 seeded Lancaster Legends.
The first time these two teams meet at Strider Field in week 6, Lancaster gave Jamestown all they had with a 41-21 Lancaster victory. They would not fair much better Friday night at Lancaster, losing 36-7.
After Jamestown failed to do anything on their opening drive of the game, Lancaster wasted no time scoring on their opening drive with one long 73 yard touchdown pass to get their first touchdown and take a 8-0 lead with a successful 2-point conversion.
Lancaster would score once again at the end of the first quarter to increase their lead to 15-0 with the extra point.
A promising Jamestown drive towards the end of the second quarter would end with a Lancaster interception. Lancaster would not score though, heading into halftime still with a 15-0 lead.
Lancaster opened the second half with a touchdown drive on their opening possession of the half. Increasing their lead to 22-0 with the extra point.
The Raider’s first possession of the 3rd quarter would end with a pick 6 interception by Lancaster to make the score 29-0.
That score would hold through 3 quarters of high school football action.
Lancaster scored once again shortly into the 4th period, increasing their lead to 36-0 with the extra point.
Jamestown would get their first score of the game with 2:30 left on the clock in the 4th quarter. Making the score 36-7 where it would stay for the remainder of the game.
Lancaster will now move on to the section 6 class AA championship game next Friday at Highmark stadium.
They will face the winner of the Orchard Park/Bennett game.
