(WNY News Now) – The National Weather Service in Buffalo, NY, has issued a High Wind Warning for Chautauqua and Southern Erie counties, effective from 9 AM to 11 PM EST today.

Residents of Chautauqua and Southern Erie counties are urged to exercise caution as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Buffalo, NY, issues a High Wind Warning in effect until 11 PM EST today. The warning encompasses southeast winds ranging from 30 to 40 mph, with gusts potentially reaching up to 60 mph.

The most severely affected areas are anticipated to be along the Lake Erie shore and near north and northwest-facing slopes. The NWS warns of potential damage to trees and power lines, heightening the risk of scattered power outages. Travel conditions are expected to be challenging, particularly for high-profile vehicles on the New York State Thruway, where strong southeast winds could create hazardous crosswinds.

To mitigate risks, residents are advised to avoid outdoor activities in forested areas and steer clear of trees and branches. For those at home, it is recommended to stay on lower levels during the windstorm, away from windows. If driving is necessary, extreme caution is advised.
