(WNY News Now) – Bemus Point – Bemus Point Superintendent of Schools Joseph Reyda, has issued a statement after Bemus Point, among various Chautauqua County schools, received a troubling email threatening Texas schools this Monday.

To the Bemus Point Community,

On Saturday morning, Bemus Point was one of several other Chautauqua County schools throughout the region and across the state who received a concerning email. The context of the email posed threats directed towards Texas schools this coming Monday morning. Local and state law enforcement and the FBI continue to investigate this email. They have reassured schools that the email has no credibility. There is no known threat, and, in all likelihood, it is a “hoax” that originated somewhere overseas.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Chautauqua County Sheriffs and the New York State Police troopers plan to be visible in the parking lots at Maple Grove Junior/Senior High School and at Bemus Point Elementary School at the start of school on Monday. Our School Safety Advisor, Mr. Jason Donato, will also be present at both sites to provide assistance and to answer any questions from concerned students or parents.

The only change to Monday’s normal routine is that the Fitness Center at Maple Grove will be closed in the morning. There will be no early morning access to the building prior to the normal arrival of staff and students on Monday.

We will continue to follow the guidance and advice from our local and state law enforcement agencies. Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,

Joseph Reyda, Superintendent of Schools
