(WNY News Now) – Buffalo, NY – Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announces that a 31-year-old Buffalo man was sentenced yesterday morning before Erie County Court Judge Suzanne Maxwell Barnes. 

On June 9, 2020, at approximately 11:18 p.m., Mahzhee X. Young, 31, shot the victim multiple times with an illegal gun outside of a corner store on East Ferry Street and Grider Street in the City of Buffalo during a verbal altercation. The victim, 27-year-old David D. Moore, was taken to ECMC in a private vehicle where he died from his injuries a short time later.

Young pleaded guilty to one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree (Class “B” violent felony) on October 4, 2023 and was sentenced to 20 years in prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision.

DA Flynn commends Detectives Joseph Christopher, Ray Krug and Mark White of the Buffalo Police Department Homicide Squad for their work in this investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Chief Eugene T. Partridge, III of the Major Crimes Bureau and Assistant District Attorney Justin H. Caldwell of the Homicide Bureau.
