(WNY News Now) – A 49 year old Niagara Falls man received the maximum sentence of 65 years to life for the 2022 murder of Cyjear Betton, related assault, and illegal handgun possession, announced by Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman.
Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman has announced the sentencing of Shaquan Gibson, 49, to 65 years to life for the May 2022 murder of Cyjear Betton in Niagara Falls. Gibson received 25 years to life for the murder, 25 years for Assault in the First Degree, and 15 years for possessing an illegal handgun. County Court Judge Caroline Wojtaszek ordered consecutive sentences. Seaman commended the Niagara Falls Police Department’s thorough investigation, stating the evidence presented in court compellingly depicted Gibson’s execution of Betton over a petty debt. First Assistant District Attorney Doreen Hoffmann and Grand Jury Bureau Chief Maria Stoelting prosecuted the case.
