(WNY News Now) – New York – The Northeast Dairy Producers Association has released a statement in regards to Gov. Hochul’s Executive Budget.
“The Executive Budget includes critical investments for New York’s dairy industry. We appreciate and thank Governor Hochul for key investments such as funding for on-farm storage and transportation, health and safety training for farmworkers, and agricultural workforce programs. These are welcome and worthwhile investments that support New York’s largest agricultural sector. In the coming months, we look forward to working with the Governor and Legislature to ensure a final budget that includes these investments and other necessary funds that support the state’s dairy industry. Additional resources are needed to fully fund existing programs including Cornell’s PRO Dairy program and Climate Leadership Position, which help protect the viability of family dairy farms and support the industry’s long-standing efforts to implement, invest in, and promote science-based best management practices that protect our environment.
Following years of industry challenges, resulting in the consolidation and closure of many farms, more must be done to protect the future of family dairy farms. A final budget with these critical investments will be a step in the right direction.”
Keith Kimball, Chair of the Northeast Dairy Producers Association
