(WNY News Now) – A 45-year-old male is in custody after attempting to flee during a routine street check near 839 Prendergast Ave on 1/26/24. The incident led to the discovery of 3.0 grams of cocaine in his possession.

On January 26, 2024, at 4:09 PM, officers from the second platoon observed Victor M. Melendez near 839 Prendergast Ave, knowing he had an active bench warrant. During a street check, Melendez attempted to evade arrest, leading officers on a brief foot pursuit through backyards.

Melendez was apprehended without incident, and a subsequent search uncovered 3.0 grams of cocaine. Held pending arraignment at Jamestown City Jail, he faces charges including Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, Resisting Arrest, and outstanding bench warrants. The case is set for Jamestown City Court.
