(WNY News Now) – Allegany County – The Allegany County Board of Legislators honors Charles “Chuck” Jessup for his extensive contributions and leadership in various civic roles, spanning over four decades.

The Allegany County Board of Legislators recently recognized volunteer and civic leader Charles “Chuck” Jessup for his many contributions to the County.

Jessup has resided in Alfred Station since 1973. In 1980, he was appointed to the Town of Alfred Planning Board and served in that capacity until his election to the Town Board in 1985. Over the next 14 years he filled the roles of Councilman, Deputy Supervisor, and Supervisor. In 2013, Jessup was
appointed to fill the remainder of District V Legislator Doug Burdick’s term of office, a seat he subsequently won for an additional four-year term in November, 2013.


In addition to his work in the Legislature, Jessup has served the County as member and Chairman of both the Allegany County Planning Board and Comprehensive Plan Committee and Comprehensive Plan Implementation Group and was instrumental in the drafting and adoption of the County’s first Comprehensive Plan. Other important County appointments include the Allegany County Industrial Development Agency, the Southern Tier West Regional Planning and Development Board of Directors, and the Allegany County Telecommunications Development Corporation Board of
Directors.

He is a life member of the Kiwanis Club of Hornell, a life member of the Alfred Rod and Gun Club, a 30-year trustee of the Alfred Rural Cemetery Association, and co-founder of the Sugar Hill Development Corporation.

Jessup has resided in Alfred Station since 1973 with his wife, Linda, with whom he raised three children, and shares six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
