(WNY News Now) – Washington, DC – Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) cosponsored the Protecting Resources Of Taxpayers to Eliminate Childhood Transgender Surgeries (PROTECTS) Act to prohibit federal funds from being used to provide gender transition procedures to minors.

This bill was introduced by Congressman Rich McCormick (GA-06). Additional original cosponsors include Representatives Mark Alford (MO-4), Rick Allen (GA-12), Jodey Arrington (TX-19), Brian Babin (TX-36), Andy Biggs (AZ-05), Lauren Boebert (CO-03), Eric Burlison (MO-07), Ben Cline (VA-06), Andrew Clyde (GA-09), Mike Collins (GA-10), Jeff Duncan (SC-03), Scott Franklin (FL-18), Mike Garcia (CA-27), Tony Gonzales (TX-23), Lance Gooden (TX-05), Glenn Grothman (WI-06), Andy Harris (MD-01), Diana Harshbarger (TN-01), Ronny Jackson (TX-13), Trent Kelly (MS-01), Doug Lamborn (CO-05), Debbie Lesko (AZ-08), Barry Loudermilk (GA-11), Anna Paulina Luna (FL-13), Mary Miller (IL-15), Carol Miller (WV-01), Alex Mooney (WV-02), Barry Moore (AL-02), Greg Murphy (NC-03), Troy Nehls (TX-22), Ralph Norman (SC-05), Andy Ogles (TN-05), Bill Posey (FL-08), David Rouzer (NC-07), Austin Scott (GA-08), Greg Steube (FL-17), Tom Tiffany (WI-07), William Timmons (SC-04), Jeff Van Drew (NJ-02), Beth Van Duyne (TX-24), Randy Weber (TX-14), and Roger Williams (TX-25).

Gender transition procedures not only pose significant ethical concerns but also have long-term negative effects on a child’s physical and mental well-being. Studies show that 80-95% of gender-dysphoric children stop experiencing dysphoria after puberty if the child receives no hormonal or surgical intervention. 70% of taxpayers are opposed to these experimental and irreversible treatments on minors.

“American tax dollars should never be used to mutilate children,” said Congresswoman Tenney. “Radical pro-transgender policies continue to be pushed on our children, threatening their well-being and safety. Not only are gender transition procedures dangerous, but irreversible, making legislation to prevent the federal government from supporting these surgeries critical. The PROTECTS Act ensures that tax dollars are not used to fund these procedures on our nation’s youth. I continue fighting to protect our children against these radical and woke ideologies.”

“The majority of America can agree that the federal government should not be funding sex change procedures for minors,” said Congressman McCormick. “Children do not have the cognitive development to make life-altering decisions. The PROTECTS Act is a great first step in addressing a fundamental problem that the US government should be no part of.”
