(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, NY – Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) hosted a press conference at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport ahead of the House Rules Committee hearing to advance two articles of impeachment for Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the House floor.

On the Senate border bill:

“As Speaker Johnson made very clear, this bill is a non-starter in the House, it leaves far too much open to interpretation by the Biden Administration, which has already been incredibly negligent in securing our southern border.

It would effectively allow 5,000 illegal immigrants to cross our borders every day. That’s roughly one and a half million a year. This deal even allows massive workarounds to this cap at the discretion of the Biden Administration, which has already failed us time and again.

It also does not truly end the catch-and-release policies that have been a major contributor to this crisis, and it instead gives asylum seekers automatic work permits, which further fuels this problem. It’s like putting up a neon sign saying, ‘Come on in, we’re open for business.’

I cannot vote for anything that will provide amnesty or further incentivize illegal immigration. This deal is a disingenuous attempt to address the concerns of the American people, who are outraged right now. They’re watching the footage, they’re seeing the stories every single day they cannot stomach this anymore. and watching what’s going on at the southern border. This is not an honest attempt to tackle that problem — we need to get to the root of the problem and shut down the border.”

On articles of impeachment for DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas:

After a year-long investigation of the crisis on our southern border, the House Committee on Homeland Security found that Mayorkas is ‘chiefly responsible for the chaos and devastation that has unfolded over the past three years’ at our nation’s borders. The impact of this border crisis has reached far beyond our southern states, as many New Yorkers have experienced in the last few years.

When we look at this border crisis that has hurt communities like ours across the country, we cannot ignore the actions of Secretary Mayorkas that led to this. He must be held accountable, and that’s why we’re pursuing articles of impeachment today.

On the Hochul Administration letter Urging NY Republicans to support the Senate bill in the House:

“There is a gravy train, and people are coming here to get on it and take advantage of New York State taxpayers because we give so much so quickly in this state. We have a government in New York City that has pledged not to follow federal laws. She ought to be embarrassed and call on the New York City Council to call an emergency session and repeal their sanctuary city policies.”

“The Governor hasn’t had sharp rhetoric for those officials that continue to double and triple down on the sanctuary city status in New York City. The fact that they can’t figure out that this is a huge part of the problem just shows you how tone-deaf they are.”
