Mayor William J. Aiello proudly announced the appointment of Danielle Eaton as the new Chair of the Downtown Olean Beautification Committee, with John Balacki elected as Vice Chair, succeeding Pat Driscoll. Comprising committed volunteers such as Susan Bly, Joey Enright, and others, the committee’s primary objective is to enhance the aesthetic appeal of downtown’s public gardens.
Monthly meetings with the Mayor and city officials facilitate future planning and suggest long-term garden solutions. To maintain the gardens, numerous volunteers, including community members and organizations like McCarthy’s Emporium and Siemens Energy Group, contribute their time and effort.
Mayor Aiello highlighted the committee’s innovative initiatives, including planters in roundabouts and medians, hanging baskets, rose bushes, and vibrant seasonal plants. Despite receiving accolades for their work, Mayor Aiello emphasized the need for additional volunteers to ensure the gardens’ upkeep. Currently, 19 gardens await adoption.
The City of Olean encourages individuals and entities to volunteer for garden maintenance. In recognition of their efforts, the city plans to place signs in each garden acknowledging volunteers. Additionally, the city will provide assistance in weed identification and offer protective gear for volunteers.
Mayor Aiello urged interested parties to contact his office for volunteer program details and expressed gratitude to committee members and volunteers for their dedication. He emphasized that Olean’s beauty is a result of their commitment and hard work.
