(WNY News Now) – Mayville, NY – A 43-year-old Jamestown man received a 2 to 4-year indeterminate state prison sentence after his conviction for Attempted Assault in the 2nd Degree.
In Chautauqua County Court, Judge David Foley handed down the sentence yesterday following Angel Vargas-Mendoza’s conviction for a July 2023 attack involving a sharp metal object that caused physical injury. Initially charged with Assault in the 2nd degree by Jamestown Police Department, he later pleaded guilty to the lesser charge on February 27, 2024. The sentencing took into account Vargas-Mendoza’s status as a second felony offender, with two prior felony convictions within ten years. The District Attorney expressed gratitude to the Jamestown Police Department for their diligence in the case. Assistant District Attorney Andrew Molitor prosecuted the case.
