(WNY News Now) – Tonawanda, NY – Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces the guilty plea of a 54-year-old resident of Town of Tonawanda for Driving While Ability Impaired before Tonawanda Town Court Justice Daniel T. Cavarello.
Roger D. Murphy pleaded guilty to one count of Driving While Ability Impaired (violation under New York State Vehicle & Traffic Law) following an incident on Friday, April 7, 2023. Murphy, operating a Town of Tonawanda street sweeper vehicle on the I-290, caused a crash near the Colvin Boulevard exit around 10:30 a.m. Investigators discovered a single prescription painkiller pill inside the vehicle post-crash.

Subsequently, Murphy was placed on administrative leave from his position in the Town of Tonawanda Highway Department and later terminated. He received a one-year conditional discharge, with a mandate of 50 hours of community service, and his driver’s license was revoked.
