(WNY News Now) – Ashville, NY – Millions of American parents and caregivers face the challenge of ensuring their children’s safety during car travel. However, with nearly half of car seats found to be improperly installed, the urgency for proper safety measures is evident.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that correctly used car seats can significantly reduce the risk of fatal injury for infants and toddlers. Yet, despite this, 46 percent of cases reveal incorrect installation.

To address this concerning trend, the Chautauqua Safety Village and Ardent Solutions are collaborating to offer a FREE car seat check event. Scheduled for Thursday, May 16th, from 10 am to 1 pm at the Ashville Fire Department, certified technicians will assess car seat installations.

Jessica Dayton, Executive Director of Chautauqua Safety Village, emphasizes the importance of ensuring children’s safety, inviting parents to participate even if they believe their car seats are correctly installed.

“Parents and caregivers can come any time between 10am and 1pm to have their car seats and seat
installation checked by certified technicians”, states Jessica Dayton, Chautauqua Safety Village,
Executive Director. “Even if you think your child’s car seat is installed correctly, come down and have it checked so you can be sure that your child is the safest they can be while traveling.”

Technicians, certified through Safe Kids Worldwide, are committed to optimizing child safety during every journey. Funding for the event is supported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
