(WNY News Now) – Dunkirk, NY – City Police respond to a motor vehicle accident between a school bus and a van, resulting in traffic tickets issued to the van driver.
This morning, on Wednesday, May 15th, 2024, at 8:10 AM, City Police swiftly reacted to reports of a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Deer St and E 6th St. The collision involved a school bus and a van, prompting immediate attention from authorities.
Upon thorough investigation, it was determined that the van driver, identified as 22-year-old Amelia Mateo-Garcia, failed to heed the stop sign at the intersection and subsequently collided with the rear of the school bus. Fortunately, both vehicles were evaluated by Dunkirk Fire personnel, and no injuries were reported among the occupants.
Amelia Mateo-Garcia, the driver of the van, faced consequences for her actions as traffic tickets were issued for multiple infractions. These include charges for improper child restraint, operating a vehicle without a license, disregarding a stop sign, and lacking insurance coverage.
