(WNY News Now) – Buffalo, NY – Shaquille O’Neal, known for his dominance on the basketball court, has transitioned into a new realm of entertainment as DJ Diesel. With his 7’1″ frame and charismatic personality, Shaq has won hearts worldwide, not only in sports but also in the music industry. The Hall of Famer’s journey into electronic dance music (EDM) began serendipitously at TomorrowWorld in 2014, where he found inspiration in the performances of Steve Aoki and Skrillex.
O’Neal’s love for music traces back to his teenage years. At 14, after witnessing a live performance by Public Enemy, he became fascinated with DJing. He worked odd jobs, saving up $200 to purchase his first set of turntables from a pawn shop. This passion led to the release of his rap album, ‘Shaq Diesel,’ in 1993, which sold over a million copies and reached No. 25 on the Billboard 100. This achievement made Shaq the only athlete with a platinum-selling album.

Embracing the moniker DJ Diesel, Shaq has since collaborated with major artists like Steve Aoki, Riot Ten, and NGHTMRE, releasing several high-energy bass records. His DJ career has taken him to the main stages of renowned festivals such as Lost Lands, Tomorrowland, and EDC Las Vegas. He even launched his own festival series, Shaq’s Bass All Stars, and maintains a Las Vegas residency at the Wynn’s XS Nightclub and Encore Beach Club.
DJ Diesel is set to bring his electrifying performance to Buffalo RiverWorks on Saturday, August 17, 2024. The event promises big sound, stunning visuals, and surprises, featuring special guests Trivecta, Levity, Gorillat, and Stoned Level. Doors open at 6 PM, and tickets go on sale Friday, May 31 at 12 PM.
