(WNY News Now) – OLEAN, NY—The City of Olean has announced a new initiative to help residents manage yard waste. Beginning Saturday, June 8, 2024, the Front Street City Lot, near the intersection of Seneca Street, will open to residents on the second Saturday of each month from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The program will run through October.
This new service allows City of Olean residents to dispose of yard debris such as tree limbs (under 2 inches in diameter), grass clippings, branches, and leaves. Larger items like tree trunks will not be accepted. Only paper bags are permitted for disposal, with a limit of three 30-gallon bags (1/2 cubic yard) per property per week. No plastic bags are allowed.
Identification with proof of residency is required to use the lot, ensuring that the service is exclusive to city residents. Contractors are not permitted to use the facility. A City of Olean employee will supervise the lot during operating hours to ensure compliance with the guidelines.
“The City is happy to provide this service to our residents. We established a limit this year to allow for us to continue to offer this program in years to come,” Mayor Aiello stated.
Additionally, residents are reminded that the monthly curbside pick-up for yard waste, scheduled for the fourth Wednesday of each month, is ongoing and will continue through September.
