Driver Nabbed for Impaired Driving in Allegany

In a late-night incident on June 3, 2024, Joseph P. Dempsey, 44, of Olean, NY, was arrested for driving while ability impaired by drugs.

On June 3rd at approximately 10:06 PM, Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop on Four Mile Rd in the Town of Allegany. Following the investigation, Dempsey was found to be driving under the influence of drugs. He was taken into custody and transported to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office for processing and a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) evaluation.

Dempsey faces multiple charges, including:

  • NYS VTL 511-3A1: Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle
  • NYS VTL 1192-4: Driving while ability impaired by drugs
  • NYS VTL 512: Operating a motor vehicle without an interlock device
  • NYS VTL 1180-D: Speed not reasonable and prudent
  • NYS VTL 375-40B: Inadequate or inoperable horn and warning devices

Dempsey was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Allegany Court at a later date.
