(WNY News Now) – Dunkirk, NY – A routine response to a reported handgun escalated into a large-scale brawl on Monday afternoon, drawing multiple law enforcement agencies to quell the disturbance.
On July 1st, 2024, at approximately 3:50 PM, Dunkirk Police officers rushed to the 500 block of Main St following reports of an armed individual. Upon arrival, officers encountered a chaotic scene as a violent altercation unfolded among multiple individuals. Initial attempts to intervene were met with resistance, as more individuals arrived and attempted to escalate the conflict.
In the ensuing chaos, several arrests were made as officers struggled to maintain order amidst a growing crowd. Cody A. Davis, Niesha M. Lockett, Larry E. Brooks Jr, Ladarran L. Watts, Jerred T. Simmons, and Darleen Brooks were among those taken into custody for their alleged involvement. Charges ranged from Disorderly Conduct to Menacing and Obstructing Governmental Administration.
Assistance from Fredonia Police, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and University Police was crucial in dispersing the crowd and restoring peace. All detained individuals were later released on appearance tickets, with further charges pending as the investigation continues.
