(WNY News Now) – Lackawanna – The City of Lackawanna Fire Department has been awarded a $35,735.99 Assistance to Firefighters Grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), announced Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23).
“I’m pleased to announce this FEMA grant for the City of Lackawanna Fire Department, which will bolster their firefighting operations and enhance safety measures,” said Congressman Langworthy. “This investment will provide needed resources for advanced equipment and essential training programs, enabling our first responders to respond effectively to emergencies.”
In an effort to support local fire departments, Congressman Langworthy hosted a virtual seminar in January with FEMA officials to prepare them for the grant application process.
According to FEMA, the primary goal of these grants is to enhance the safety and effectiveness of first responders while also improving their ability to respond to emergencies and disasters. They aim to address the evolving needs of first responders, from advanced equipment acquisition and updating aging vehicles to safety improvement and training programs.
Congressman Nick Langworthy represents the 23rd Congressional District of New York, including Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben Counties, and parts of Erie County. Visit langworthy.house.gov.
