(WNY News Now) – Chautauqua County – A segment of Arab Hill Forest Road, spanning between Lewis Road and Housington Road in Boutwell Hill State Forest, Chautauqua County, is temporarily closed. This measure is vital for the rehabilitation of the Homestead Trail, a popular cross-country ski route. The Boutwell Hill Ski Club, Inc. is spearheading the project under a Volunteer Stewardship Agreement with the DEC, backed by a grant from Parks and Trails New York (PTNY) awarded in January 2024.

The Homestead Trail’s rehabilitation aims to enhance year-round accessibility for hikers, runners, cyclists, equestrians, and skiers. Key improvements include installing a large culvert to replace a deteriorating bridge and upgrading the trail surface and drainage.

Additionally, the project may impact other trails in the vicinity, such as the Earl Cardot East Side Overland Trail and the Chautauqua County Equestrian Trails. Construction-related closures and reroutes will be clearly marked, and visitors are urged to heed all posted signage and detours during this period.

The closure is projected to last a minimum of 60 days. Visitors should regularly check the Boutwell Hill website for updates and additional information.
