(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. — In a significant crackdown on drug-related crimes, U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced that a Jamestown, NY, man has been convicted by a federal jury on multiple serious drug charges. The charges include possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, possession of MDMA, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, and maintaining a drug-involved premises. These convictions carry a mandatory minimum penalty of 25 years in prison and a maximum of life imprisonment.

The case, prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Evan K. Glaberson and Louis A. Testani, detailed how Jose Caceras, 39, was apprehended on February 27, 2023. Jamestown Police officers, in collaboration with U.S. Probation, arrested Caceras during a traffic stop. Following his arrest, Caceras attempted to dispose of a bag of fentanyl concealed in his pants while being transported to the Jamestown City Jail. This incident resulted in a Jamestown Police officer being exposed to fentanyl, necessitating medical treatment at a local hospital.

A subsequent search of Caceras’ stash house in Jamestown led to the discovery of over 50 grams of methamphetamine, a bag of MDMA, and various drug paraphernalia. This verdict culminates a thorough investigation spearheaded by the U.S. Probation Office, led by Chief Probation Officer Timothy Englert, the Jamestown Police Department, under Chief Timothy Jackson, and the Drug Enforcement Administration, directed by Special Agent-in-Charge Frank Tarentino of the New York Field Division.

U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo, who presided over the trial, has yet to schedule a sentencing date for Caceras.
