Jamestown and Dunkirk Events Provide Backpacks, School Supplies to Local Children

(WNY News Now) – Chautauqua County – TCC Health (The Chautauqua Center, Inc.), a nonprofit healthcare provider committed to community well-being, is thrilled to announce its annual TCC Community Picnics in celebration of National Community Health Center Week, taking place August 4-10.

The picnics will be held on two dates and locations, both from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Jamestown Community Picnic is set for August 6 at Community Helping Hands at the Gateway Center on Water Street, while the Dunkirk Community Picnic will occur on August 8 at the Salvation Army on Central Avenue.

The primary aim of these family-friendly events is to distribute backpacks and school supplies to children in need, ensuring they are ready for the upcoming school year.

“At the heart of our mission is the commitment to enhance the overall health and wellness of our community through prevention and treatment, one patient at a time,” said TCC Health CEO Michael Pease. “By organizing these Community Picnics, we aim to create a fun-filled atmosphere while addressing the important need for school supplies among local children. Our goal is to alleviate the financial burden on families and empower children for success in school.”

The picnics will feature various fun activities to foster community togetherness and promote healthy lifestyles. Attendees can enjoy live music and dancing with Marty’s Bubble Gum Machine, a bounce house, face painting, a photo booth with Eventz by Scott, walking tacos by The Salvation Army Anew Center, free produce from the Jamestown Mobile Market, community resources, health information, and more.

It is important to note that children must be present at the event to choose their own backpack, and they must be accompanied by an adult.

TCC Health extends its gratitude to the event sponsors, including Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York, Jamestown Rotary Club AM, Wegman’s of Jamestown, Cattaraugus County Bank, Community Bank NA, and PepsiCo. Thanks are also due to the administration and staff of The Chautauqua Center and The Waterfront Foundation for their dedication to community health and well-being.

A special thanks goes to the Salvation Army Anew Center for providing fun food options like Walking Tacos, popcorn, cotton candy, and free produce from the Jamestown Mobile Market. Over 20 community partners and agencies will be present with information, activities, and services available at little or no cost.
