(WNY News Now) – On July 29, 2024, at approximately 4:30 PM, officers from the Jamestown Police Department’s 2nd Platoon responded to a trespass complaint at a residence on the north side of the city. Upon arrival, officers discovered James A. Scotchmer, a 39-year-old resident of Jamestown, hiding in the backyard.

During the investigation, Scotchmer attempted to deceive the officers by providing a false name, intending to avoid arrest due to an active bench warrant issued in his name. His attempt to evade capture proved unsuccessful as officers quickly uncovered his true identity.

Further inspection revealed that Scotchmer was in possession of a quantity of methamphetamine. As a result, he was taken into custody and transported to the Jamestown City Jail.

Scotchmer faces charges of Criminal Impersonation in the 2nd degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree. He is currently being held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
