(WNY News Now) – Allegany County will hold its 23rd Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, September 7, 2024. This event, managed by the Allegany County Solid Waste Department, has been a significant community effort since 2010, successfully collecting and disposing of over 150,000 pounds of hazardous household waste.

Residents are encouraged to bring common hazardous items such as pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers, pool chemicals, cleaning chemicals, and oil-based paints. Since 2022, in collaboration with PaintCare and under the New York State Product Stewardship Plan, the program has expanded to accept latex and other household paints for proper disposal.

The collection event will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on September 7. Pre-registration is required due to limited space. For more information or to register, residents can contact Tim Palmiter, the Allegany County Recycling Coordinator, at 585-268-7282 or via email at timothy.palmiter@alleganyco.gov.
