(WNY News Now) – Freedom – A late-night arrest in Freedom, NY, led to the apprehension of a 50-year-old man wanted on two bench warrants.
On August 9, 2024, at approximately 10:01 PM, Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Deputies, assisted by the New York State Police (NYSP) Machias, executed a bench warrant arrest on David L. Smith, 50, of Freedom, New York. Smith was wanted on two bench warrants issued by the Cattaraugus County Court.
Deputies arrived at Smith’s residence on Rte-98 in Freedom, where he was taken into custody without incident. Following the arrest, Smith was transported to the Cattaraugus County Jail, where he is being held pending further court proceedings. As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
