(WNY News Now) – Olean, NY – A 39-year-old Olean resident faces felony charges after a thorough investigation into a suspected welfare fraud operation in Cattaraugus County.
The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Bureau has announced the arrest of Peter D. Jones, 39, of Olean, NY, on charges of Grand Larceny in the Third Degree and Welfare Fraud in the Third Degree, both D Felonies. The arrest, made on August 13th, 2024, at 9:40 AM, was the result of an ongoing investigation into a complaint filed in early 2023 by the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services.
Jones is accused of selling $6,937.66 in EBT/Food Stamp benefits as part of a trafficking operation. The investigation, conducted with the assistance of the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services Program Integrity Unit, allegedly uncovered multiple instances of suspected fraud involving EBT/Food Stamp cards.
Jones was taken into custody without incident at the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services in Olean, NY. He was processed and subsequently released with an appearance ticket. The defendant is scheduled to appear in the City of Olean Court on September 10th, 2024, at 9:30 AM.
