(WNY News Now) – Buffalo, N.Y. – In a solemn tribute to a life of service and sacrifice, the Route 179 Bridge, known as Milestrip Road, has been officially renamed the Trooper William P. Keane Memorial Bridge. Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced the dedication, expressing deep pride in honoring his late cousin, Trooper Bill Keane.
“Today, the Route 179 Bridge (Milestrip Road) was officially re-named the Trooper William P. Keane Memorial Bridge. I am proud of my cousin Trooper Bill Keane. I know that his wife, Sharon, his children, and grandchildren are also extremely proud. After serving our country in the United States Navy, Bill continued to serve our community for 26 years as a proud member of the New York State Police until his unexpected death. This memorial will ensure that his unwavering dedication to public service and ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten. Thank you to Senator Patrick M. Gallivan, Assemblyman Jonathan D. Rivera, and the New York State Police for spearheading this initiative in his honor.”
* This article has been updated to reflect that the late William Keane is the cousin of Acting District Attorney Mike Keane, not John Flynn.
