(WNY News Now) – Syracuse – A devastating shooting in Syracuse leaves 15-year-old Alexcia Lynch dead, as police rapidly investigate the circumstances surrounding her tragic death.
On the evening of Friday, August 30th, 2024, at approximately 8:14 p.m., Syracuse Police responded to a distressing 911 call reporting a shooting at 901 Madison Street, Apartment 27. Officers arriving on the scene discovered 15-year-old Alexcia Lynch, born March 9, 2009, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by the police, Alexcia was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the days following the tragic incident, Syracuse Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and Homicide Unit launched a thorough investigation. Detectives conducted numerous interviews and an extensive neighborhood canvass. The investigation also involved the execution of several search warrants, leading to the recovery of crucial evidence.
Through these efforts, police identified a 15-year-old male suspect in connection with Alexcia Lynch’s death. On August 31st, 2024, the suspect voluntarily surrendered to authorities at the Public Safety Building in Syracuse. Following his arraignment, the juvenile suspect was remanded to the Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Facility.
The suspect now faces serious charges, including second-degree murder under Penal Law 125.25, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon under Penal Law 265.03. As are all persons accused of a crime, the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
