(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, N.Y. — Adrian D. Applewhite, 37, of Buffalo, NY, also known as “Boons,” was sentenced to 229 months in federal prison for his involvement in a series of armed credit union robberies. U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara handed down the sentence after Applewhite’s conviction for aggravated bank robbery, brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and violating supervised release.

Applewhite’s criminal activities spanned three robberies:

  • October 26, 2017: Applewhite orchestrated the armed robbery of Lakeshore Federal Credit Union in Evans, NY. He provided both the plan and firearm used by an accomplice.
  • July 25, 2019: Applewhite served as the getaway driver for the robbery of South Towns Community Federal Credit Union in Lackawanna, NY. His co-conspirators used pepper spray on bank employees and stole $290,500. Applewhite took a portion of the proceeds.
  • November 7, 2019: Acting as the getaway driver, Applewhite aided in the robbery of Clarence Community and School Federal Credit Union. A total of $148,793.90 was stolen, and Applewhite received a share of the loot.

The case was investigated by multiple agencies, including the FBI, New York State Police, and local law enforcement.
