(WNY News Now) – BUFFALO, NY — Curtis L. Hall, Jr., 37, of Buffalo, has been sentenced to a split term of six months in jail and five years probation for the fatal collision that killed 69-year-old Michael T. Cosgrove last December. Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced the sentence, which also includes a revocation of Hall’s New York State driver’s license.

The incident occurred on December 15, 2023, at approximately 9:37 p.m. Hall, driving at high speed and under the influence of alcohol, struck Cosgrove on the 1000 block of William Street. Cosgrove, who was crossing the street, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hall entered a guilty plea to Criminally Negligent Homicide (Class “E” felony) on May 21, 2024. This conviction represents the highest charge that could be sustained under the circumstances.
Acting DA Keane expressed appreciation for the Buffalo Police Department Accident Investigation Unit’s thorough work on the case. The prosecution was led by Assistant District Attorney Christopher M. McCarthy of the Vehicular Crimes Bureau.
