(WNY News Now) – Buffalo – Acting Erie County District Attorney Mike Keane announces that 25-year-old Dale R. Kumler of Glen Rock, Pennsylvania was sentenced before Judge Kathleen J. Prendergast in York County Court. He received an aggregate sentence of 9 to 18 years in prison followed by three years of probation. In late May 2024, Kumler pleaded guilty to charges of Statutory Sexual Assault, Corruption of Minors and Unlawful Contact of Minors. The matter was prosecuted by the York County District Attorney’s Office.

As part of a plea agreement, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office has agreed to dismiss a pending criminal charge against Kumler. Initially indicted by an Erie County Grand Jury for Kidnapping in the Second Degree—a Class “B” violent felony—Kumler was accused of abducting a victim from her home in the Town of Grand Island. The dismissal of this charge was part of a negotiated agreement between the Erie County and York County District Attorney’s Offices, made with the consent of the victim and her mother.

“This agreement protected the victim from potentially further traumatization by reliving her experience through testimony while ensuring that the defendant received a significant sentence of incarceration for this crime. I commend the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, Pennsylvania State Police, and the FBI for their work in this investigation, which resulted in the quick apprehension of the defendant and the safe recovery of the victim. Also, I want to thank the York County District Attorney’s Office for their successful prosecution of this case and working with the victim, the victim’s mother, and our office on this agreement,” said Acting DA Mike Keane.

The case in Erie County was handled by Assistant District Attorney Rachel M. Vicario of the Special Victims/Domestic Violence Bureau.
