(WNY News Now) – Lakewood – On the evening of September 11, 2024, at approximately 6:46 p.m., Lakewood Fire Department, alongside mutual aid, responded to a fire at 9 Alto Way. The fire, which originated outside the residence, was successfully extinguished with no injuries reported.

Upon request, the Sheriff’s Fire Investigation Team arrived to assist in determining the origin and cause of the blaze. Following a thorough examination, it was confirmed that the fire was caused by improperly discarded smoking material, which ignited near the exterior of the home. Authorities have since urged residents to be cautious when disposing of smoking materials, especially near residential structures.

Although the fire resulted in property damage, quick action by the Lakewood Fire Department and their mutual aid partners prevented further escalation. No charges have been filed as of yet, and the investigation remains open to determine if any code violations or negligence contributed to the incident.
